Abstract | Though accuracy of character recognition for segmented character image is enough for practical use, conventional segmentation methods can be applied to only well-defined problems. Therefore, they cannot extract an isolated character which does not constitute a character string and a touching character which is connected to other characters. In this paper, we propose a fast deformable template matching method for character recognition. This method enables us to extract and recognize such troublesome characters simultaneously in smaller computational time than non-deformable template matching method. In addition, the proposed method requires less computational time to increase of a template. |
